Boureong Homestead Block ~ Rich in History

Right on the edge of Gunning township, only 2hrs from Sydney and 45 min from Canberra, historic “Boureong Homestead” is one of the three oldest homesteads in Gunning.
The 29.2 Acre property sits on rich alluvial creek flats (pasture improved and regularly fertilised) and undulating hills, and consists of a homestead, nearby old brick stables and large machinery/hayshed. Water is a strong feature with ample rainwater storage complimented by double frontage to Meadow Creek with and electric pump providing stock and garden water.
Boureong Homestead is listed on the Australian Heritage database as being built in the 1840s, of “excellent workmanship” in the formal nature of its Victorian/Georgian design. It was built by Peter Best who had been granted the land in 1839.
The characterful and charming homestead is symmetrical with sandstone rubble foundations, walls of Flemish bond brickwork pointed with cream mortar. It contains 3 downstairs bedrooms, 2 large livings rooms with fireplaces, 14’ foot ceilings, timber floors & doors, bathroom, concealed attic upstairs which can be used as a fourth bedroom.
Connected to this home, the enclosed walkway leads to an older colonial granite dwelling with random rubble kitchen, another 3 rooms including a spiral staircase to an upstairs loft.
The nearby red brick stable / coach house was built around the same time as the main house.
The landscaped gardens and lawns that surround the homestead, lead down to the ‘Monet inspired’ garden lake creating a delightful vista with the paddocks in the background.
